A warm fall day, a cozy farmhouse and a big red barn, perfectly tucked away in the SE Saskatchewan countryside was where this incredible newborn family session took place. I was instantly greeted by Renee + Tanner’s welcoming committee – their Bernese Mountain dog, Gus – and we were off to create some magic!
As many of us know, fall doesn’t always last long here in Saskatchewan, but we lucked out with the most perfect weather and golden hour flooding over the golden fields around us! To make the session feel as natural as possible to R + T, we started with them showing me around their adorable farmhouse, letting baby A have a quick feed before we headed out. Starting on their porch, it was straight out of a western romance movie – cozy, warm, annnd even had the screen door and porch swing!
By allowing them to relax in their favourite spot, in the place they feel most at home – literally their home – they were instantly more relaxed and the rest of the session went off without a hitch.
Walking the whole yard, dog and cats in tow, they told me all about finding this gem of a property and future plans. Letting the sun rays and light flares dance through the camera lens, it doesn’t get much easier for parents than simply loving on their newest addition for the main “poses”.
Baby A was an absolute pro, only needing one little break, and Gus of course accompanied us everywhere we went. It was a great example of making your photos your own, even when it comes to a newborn shoot! We leaned into the place Baby A would grow up in, the love Renee and Tanner have for their property, and their wish of natural and relaxed feeling images.
It’s probably one of my favourite newborn sessions to date because we were outside, adventuring around their property in the beautiful Saskatchewan fall weather – it could not have been more perfect!
Renee, Tanner, Baby A – thank you for welcoming me into your home and allowing me to document such a special chapter in your lives!
“You were so wonderful to be around! Calming and relaxed, it felt like having an old friend to our home! It is so special to have such beautiful pictures of us in our favourite place. And they feel so cozy and natural! Your style of photography is gorgeous. These photos feel like they are our “good old days”. It is absolutely an art to capture that feeling! I cannot wait to print these memories, hang them in our home, and treasure them forever!” – Renee, Tanner, + Baby A
